ANOTHER ENERGY BILL WITH NO ENERGY

February 27, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis today issued the following statement in response to another energy bill that will raise gas prices for the American people and increase our dependence on foreign energy:

I feel like I have been down this road before,” said Congressman Davis.  “For the fourth time in the 110th Congress, Democrats have brought an energy bill to the House Floor that has no new energy and new taxes.  You cannot tax and regulate America to energy independence,” said Davis in response to the newest energy bill.

This bill creates a $3.6 billion tax credit bond program,” said Davis, about a program that will have very little oversight and no assurance that the projects will reduce greenhouse gas emissions or decrease our dependency on foreign oil.

To go along with the $3.6 billion tax credit program, the new energy bill contains more than $17 billion in tax increases to offset its costs,” said Davis, who also mentions that “this bill raises taxes on American oil companies while not taxing the Venezuelan owned Citgo and Russian owned Lukoil.  There is something wrong with this picture,” said Congressman Davis.

What we need is common sense; we need an energy bill that will reduce our dependency on foreign oil by rewarding those who partake in alternative energy practices and allows the U.S. to drill for oil on our own soil.  We need an energy bill that utilizes alternative energy sources like wind, water, coal to liquid technology, and oil shale."
