Congressman Davis Cosponsors Impact Aid legislation

October 17, 2007

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis announced today that he is a cosponsor of H.R. 3058, which will increase the amount of federal funds provided to counties who have a significant amount of property owned by the federal government and who qualify for Impact Aid, which is also known as payment in lieu of taxes (PILT) .

“There are many counties in the First District that will be positively affected by this legislation,” Congressman David Davis said. “With this legislation we have an opportunity to increase the payments to those counties who are already part of the Impact Aid program.”

A few of the counties in the First District that will benefit: Carter County will receive $146,560 more funding, Unicoi County will receive an additional $55,812, and Washington County will see an increase of $11,616.

“I am also working on original legislation that will find a reasonable solution for those counties that have a significant percentage of property owned by the federal government,” Congressman Davis said. “It is important that the taxpayers of the affected counties be treated fairly.”
