Congressman David Davis announces Notification of Grant Program Solicitation Availability

October 23, 2007

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis announced the opening of solicitation of grants for the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

“The window for applications is now open through November 30, 2007 for solicitation of grant projects,” Congressman David Davis. “These grants have extremely helpful to many fire fighters in the First District. The AFG program has provided nearly a million dollars in funding designated for new vehicle acquisition, or operations and safety in our region.”

The application kit will be made available today at: http://www.firegrantsupport.com and at www.grants.gov.  Actual awards will be made at a later date.

“I encourage all of our area fire departments to visit the website and see if there are any grants that fit the needs of their community fire fighters,” Congressman Davis said.

The FP&S Grant Program is a component of FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, whose purpose is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. FP&S grants provide support for efforts to mitigate incidence of death and injury caused by fire and fire-related hazards, especially in high-risk target groups such children, the elderly, and firefighters. In addition, FP&S supports Firefighter Safety Research and Development activities. Using a competitive process and fire service subject matter experts, DHS will award grants to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the FP&S program.
