Washington, DC -- Today, Congressman David Davis announced three series of grants to East Tennessee State University in the amount of $952,323, Tusculum College in the amount of $597,593, and Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc. in the amount $557,708 for the Upward Bound educational program.

“I am pleased to announce increased resources for these two educational institutions,” Congressman David Davis. “Education is the foundation for continued economic growth. These grants will benefit the entire First District by increasing education opportunities.”

The Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree; low-income, first-generation military veterans who are preparing to enter postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduation from institutions of post-secondary education.
