| Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis voted against premature withdrawal of our troops from Iraq by casting a “no” vote on H.R. 1591, the Military Spending Supplemental Conference Report.
“A vote for a publicized timeline for withdrawal is a vote for failure,” Congressman Davis said. “I am concerned that we are seeing political gamesmanship with our troops’ lives and the future of our nation.
“After meeting with Gen. Petraeus today and seeing that progress is slowly moving forward. I still believe that we can win this Global War on Terror. This is not a situation to play politics, but to stand strong in this battle that will affect our country for generations to come.
“We are sending the wrong message to our troops that we don’t support their efforts. This legislation also tells terrorists “hang on” and we will be gone in a few weeks. Thankfully, President Bush will veto this bill and hopefully, we will be able to get a clean bill to properly fund our military. |
