Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis has announced has U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant to Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority in the amount of $851,100 designated to assist with providing affordable housing to elderly individuals.
“There is a need in our area for affordable housing for our seniors, many of whom are on fixed incomes,” Congressman David Davis said. “This money will be used to improve access to housing for the elderly in our region.”
The Section 202 program allows elderly persons, including the frail elderly, to live as independently as possible in the community by increasing the supply of rental housing with the availability of supportive services. Under this program, capital advances are made to private nonprofit organizations or nonprofit consumer cooperatives to build, acquire, and/or rehabilitate rental housing with supportive services for persons age 62 or older.
